“You see, ‘alcohol’ in Latin is spiritus, and you use the same word for the highest religious experience as well as for the most depraving poison. The helpful formula therefore is: spiritus contra spiritum.”
— Carl Jung, in a letter to Bill Wilson, January 1961
What It Means:
Spiritus contra spiritum = “Spirit against spirit”
In Latin, “spiritus” refers both to:
Distilled alcohol (spirits)
Divine or higher spirit (spiritual essence)
Jung’s insight was that alcoholism is a spiritual thirst — a longing for wholeness, connection, and transcendence. The addictive behavior is a misguided attempt to satisfy this inner void.
Connection to BeT (Bio-Electrode Therapy)
Like AA’s focus on spiritual awakening, BeT restores balance not just chemically, but energetically. Through:
Activation of meridians
Stimulation of electrical flow
Realignment of Qi and polarity
…BeT offers a physiological path to spiritual harmony — returning the body to its natural coherence, clarity, and healing rhythm.
BeT is not just therapy for the body, but a reconnection with the deeper current of life itself.
